Geography of the Ukraine
On the map you see modern Ukraine. It is 24 areas (oblasts) and on a south autonomous republic Crimea.
Also on this map some Ukrainian provinces (guberniyas) which existed from the end of a 18 age to beginning 20 ages are marked.
The Chernigov province (guberniya) is territory of modern by Chernigov and Sumy Ukrainian areas, Bryansk area of Russia.
The Kharkov province is territory of modern by Kharkov, Lugansk and Sumy areas of Ukraine.
The Poltava province is territory of modern by Poltava, Cherkassy, Kharkov and east Kiev areas of Ukraine.
The Volyn province is territory of modern by Zhytomyr, Rovno, Volyn areas, and also north part of the Khmelnytsky area. Documents of the Volyn province (1795-1925 years) are in the Zhitomir archives, and small part of documents – in the archives of Khmelnytsky.
The Kiev province is territory of modern by Zhytomyr, Kiev, north of Cherkassy, north-east of Winnytsa areas. The documents of the Kiev province are kept in the archives of Kiev and small part of documents – in the archive of Zhytomyr.
The Podol province is territory of modern by Khmelnytsky, Winnytsa and north part of the Odessa areas. The documents of the Podol province are kept in the archives of Khmelnytsky and Winnytsa.
